Elisha Cuthbert: Noticed by Hillary Clinton
How many stars would catch the attention of a US First Lady and then get invited to the White House? Well, it does happen all the time, you argue, but what if that artist was a young Canadian?
You may have seen Elisha’s face on TV thousands of times. She was the host of the Canadian production of Popular Mechanics for Kids and in many other Canadian productions before she moved to Los Angeles at age 17. Before her major breakthrough in the action-thriller TV series, 24, she played minor roles in such films as Old School, Love Actually, and The Girl Next Door (2004) in which she played her first feature film.
Although born in Calgary, Alberta, Cuthbert actually grew up in the province of Quebec which explains her fluency in French.
Cuthbert started in modeling and playing regular roles in television but it was as a host of Popular Mechanics for Kids that required her to travel to many places, in spite of the fact that she was known to hate flying. It was during one of her reports as a foreign correspondent for Popular Mechanics for Kids that Hillary Clinton noticed her and subsequently invited her to the White House.
Iin 2000 she landed the role of Kim Bauer, the daughter of Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) in 24, a TV series dedicated to the whole idea of modern-day terrorism.
Her next big screen appearance was opposite Paris Hilton and Chad Michael in the film remake of House of Wax. It did not win the critics’ favor, although a few said that Cuthbert played her role adequately. Cuthbert also starred in the film The Quiet, where she portrays the role of Nina, a moody cheerleader who is sexually abused. Cuthbert said she was disturbed by this role, considering it “dark and heavy. It was released in the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival. Cuthbert is booked for three films currently: Captivity, He Was a Quiet Man, and Cat Tale.
Cuthbert is an avid fan of hockey and holds season tickets to the Los Angeles Kings. She is said to be dating Sean Avery of the LA Kings. Before her relationship with Avery, she was seeing Trace Ayala, Justin Timberlake’s personal assistant.
